Join Claudia Stack, Frederick DeShon Murphy and Dr. Richard T. Newkirk for a film presentation and discussion on Saturday, 9/21/19 at 1pm at Poplar Grove Plantation, 10200 US Highway 17 N., Wilmington, NC 28411
Bridging the Divide: Healing Historical Trauma by Building Community
At this event the award-winning films The American South As We Know It and Sharecrop will immerse audiences in the experiences of Americans who lived through the segregation era. Then filmmaker/professional counselor Frederick DeShon Murphy and filmmaker/educator Claudia Stack, along with Dr. Richard T. Newkirk, a USAF veteran, HBCU alumnus and retired educator with 40 years of experience, will lead a discussion about historical trauma. Against the backdrop of Poplar Grove Plantation, where enslaved people created wealth they were not permitted to share, we will discuss how we can build community to bridge the racial divide and begin healing. Many thanks to Caroline Lewis for hosting this event at Poplar Grove Plantation.
